New book trilogy from Julie Ann Walker

AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO'S EXCITED FOR THE "IN MOONLIGHT AND MEMORIES" TRILOGY?

πŸ’œπŸ’•From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julie Ann Walker comes an epic story about sacrifice, friendship, and the awe-inspiring power of love. πŸ’•πŸ’œ

Maggie: Ten years ago, Cash Armstrong stole my heart. Then he promptly joined the army—dragging my best friend with him—and left me crying on the front porch in a red sequined prom dress. Now he's back. They're both back. Cash, the one who still has my heart. And Luc, the one who saved my life.

Cash: How do you know if you’re at the end of the beginning or the beginning of the end? That's what I've been trying to figure out since a traumatic brain injury made me "unfit to serve." I'm back in New Orleans, and picking up the shattered pieces of my past means I must confront where my life's journey began... and where it all might end.

Luc: Long ago, Maggie May was mine. Not mine in the way you might think. She was mine because she was my only friend. Then Cash came along and we became brothers by something stronger than blood. We became brothers by choice. When tragedy struck, I was forced to make a decision that changed all our lives. I thought, after ten years, it was safe to come back home. I was wrong...

Review of "Take Me Down" (Knight Brothers #3) by Carly Phillips

This book continues the Carly Phillips series based on the Knight family (three brothers and one sister).

I love how the book explores Patrick's reluctance to make decisions because his past choices have met with less than stellar results. Until he meets Emily. She shakes him to the core and makes him realize sometimes the hard decisions are actually the easiest - As long as you are willing to follow your heart.

As always, the sex scenes are steamy, the connections are instant but fought against, and love always wins in the end. Throw in a crazy almost-ex stalker husband and there is a touch of mystery, too.

I want to read Hayley's story!  And, I can't wait for Ethan and Sienna's story - I can guarantee that one will make my Kindle steam.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Review of "The Averageness of Grant Pech" by Rob Scoda

I wanted to like this book. It seemed like it would have a fresh perspective on the question of "why are we here."

The main character was so extremely unlikable that it was difficult to be sympathetic, or even empathetic, in his quest to prove that his "averageness" was hindering his success at being in a committed relationship and he wanted to change that. Even his very few friends reached the point to where they went out of their way to avoid him and, at one point, even cut themselves off from him. His quest to prove his theory of his innate average qualities came across as an extremely self-absorbed "Debbie Downer" wanting to prove that he was right and everyone else was wrong.

In the end, through months of psychoanalysis and testing his "theories", he decided that he wanted to embrace being average and really didn't ever want to be in a committed relationship. Wait...what?

This book was written in first-person and came across as if it was a failed doctoral thesis where the subject, once it was determined that they wrong in their theory, basically stuck out his tongue at the world and stomped away pouting that what they were trying to prove wasn't what they wanted after all.  I seriously struggled to finish this book and would think twice about reading more by this author in the future. Review of "Hot Under the Collar" by Roxanne St. Claire

Be warned...this review may contain spoilers!

I was excited to read Hot Under the Collar, the first entry in the "Dogmothers" series, a much-anticipated spin-off of the "Dogfather" series. It did not disappoint.

When Gramma Finnie and Agnes "Yiayia" Santorini team up to make matches after Daniel Kilcannon finally made one for himself, the stakes are high as they set their sights on matching Braden Mahoney, the fire-fighting Kilcannon cousin with dreams of training an arson detection dog, with feisty Cassie Santorini, an event planner with dreams of being a big fish in a much bigger pond than Bitter Bark.

Braden's dog, Jelly Bean, is a highly intelligent Weimeraner who understands commands and can sniff out everything but just can't tell the difference in the aromas. There is much tension and frustration as Braden needs more training for Jelly Bean at the cost of $10k. Enter Cassie, who is already planning the Dog Days festival for Bitter Bark and sponsored by Family First dog food. (Fun fact:  the Family First name was suggested by a reader on the Dogfather Facebook fan page!). She suggests adding a scavenger hunt with the entry fees going towards paying for Jelly Bean's advanced training.

Sparks fly between Braden and Cassie as they figure out the Dogmothers' plan to "match" then and try to fool them into thinking their plans are working by pretending to be interested in each other. However, the plan backfires when pretense becomes reality.

Old flames try to rekindle, a new player appears vying for Cassie's attention and commitment, Daniel tries to convince Braden to try another dog, and Jelly Bean doesn't like Cassie!

Roxanne St Claire continues the success of the Dogfather series with the beginning of the Dogmothers. Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down!  There were some unexpected twists and turns but, in the end, everyone found their Happy Ever After. And the Dogmothers set their sights on a match for chef Alex Santorini.

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I give this book a 😍😍😍😍😍 rating.

In the Beginning

Some of my earliest memories involve books.  Big books, little books, picture books, coloring books, comic books...I have always been surround my friends - books.

My mom, God rest her soul, had a love for books. She had a dream of writing books, living in New York City and being married to a banker. She ended up with one of those three things - being married to a banker. But the other two things were not in the cards as we lived on a farm in East Tennessee and she ended up reading books instead of writing them. She used to read to me a lot when I was little and taught me to read before I was four and encouraged me to read anything I had an interest in.

And read I did. I think I almost always had a book or magazine in my hand, beside my bed (or INSIDE my bed as my first "big girl" bed had a bookcase headboard!), in my purse. If you saw me you saw a book.   I read everything.  Biographies of Benjamin Franklin and George Washington Carver, Helen Keller and Marie Curie, Pete Rose and Billy Martin. Classics by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Washinton Irving, James Fennimore Cooper, Louisa May Alcott, the Bronte sisters, Charles Dickens, Walt Whitman, Robert Frost.  The list is endless!

So, I have decided to blog about what I am reading. I still have a varied range of genres that I enjoy reading - romance, mystery, thrillers, action, political intrigue, comedy.  I have been fortunate to be included in Advanced Reader teams for some of my favorite authors and am always amazed at the genius shown by these authors. Genius, Talent, and Courage.  Yes, Courage.  Because it takes guts for someone to pour themself onto the page for others to read, critique/review, enjoy (or not, in some cases), digest, and encourage or discourage even more people to purchase and read their hard work.

I hope to be able, through this blog, to introduce you to authors you may or may not be familiar with. I hope to encourage you to read an author, series, or genre you may not be familiar with.   My plan is to let you know what I am reading, share my review of it, and provide links for you to purchase it. Along the way, we may have some contests, sneak peeks, and some author swag to share.

Please feel free to interact, ask questions, and make comments. I promise to respond to each and every one of them but remember, if I don't get back to you right away then I probably glanced at my notification and went "not now...I'm reading.". 😏
